ShangHai Nian Gao (Rice Cake)

Have been wanting to try this long ago. I'm glad that I did it today for lunchy finally. Happy that hubby likes it, he says taste like kway tiao just that it's bigger in size. Dhuz...

I used oyster sauce instead, but after eating a few spoonsfuls, I added some chilli sauce. More delicious infact, will try frying this with sambal belachan the next time. Should be much better & tastier.

Looking at this pic, I think the nian gao I bought resembles abalones. Haha! :P

Okie dokie, here's the recipe.

Ingredients:

1pkt shanghai nian gao, soak overnight till it softens
some bok choy
some minced pork
chinese preserved mushroom, soak & sliced thinly
2cloves garlic, minced finely
1tbsp oyster sauce

Marinade for Pork:
1tsp soy sauce
a pinch of sugar, pepper & cornflour
1tsp sesame oil

Method:
1) Heat oil in wok, add in minced garlic, fry till alittle browned.
2) Add in mushrooms, fry for awhile, add in minced pork & bok choy.
3) Pour in nian gao/rice cake, fry together with other ingredients.
4) Mix in oyster sauce, 4tbsp water & a pinch of sugar, fry till all is well coated. Enjoy!
